You can bring friends to the S&RT (Sail and Race Training).
They must be:

  • 10 years or over, under 18 and be able to swim.
  • Have Parents permission.
  • Be warmly dressed in old clothes and be prepared to get wet (feet and legs always), and bring a change of warm spare clothes.
  • They will need to bring a pair of old sandshoes or trainers for sailing and have dry shoes and socks to go home in. The club will provide a splash suit and a buoyancy aid.
  • They must also bring £3 temporary membership on up to three occasions. After that they can join as a cadet member for £14 per year less the temporary membership fees paid.
  • Bring at least £2 more for a hot drink and more if they require a hot lunch.
  • Be well behaved and follow instructions.
You as the Youth Squad member introducing them must:
  • Make them feel welcome and introduce them to the Officer in Charge (OIC) and other officers and Cadets.
  • Ensure the club computer record is completed with all their details before sailing.
  • Explain to them as much as possible about safety and sailing, generally look out for them and always ensure they race.
3. As cadet members of the club and as members of the NSC Youth Squad you will generally be expected and probably want, to provide your own buoyancy aid and protective clothing as time and finances allow. The splash suits and buoyancy aids are provided by NSC and sponsors to help as many people as possible to try the sport of sailing without cost being a barrier. If however the squad are attending a race meeting as a team then the club equipment will be usually worn as it bears the NSC logo.
4. As cadets increase their skills and capability they will be expected to take and pass the various badges and stages of the Royal Yachting Association and National Schools Sailing Association teaching schemes. In turn the cadets will be expected to assist with the friendly introduction and instruction of new comers to sailing. The Youth Squad's ethos is one of "Progress to Independence" with all members and leaders learning together and progressing together. We look out for the needs and the safety of one another, for visitors, for the rest of the club, the community and the environment .
