Our topper fleet seems to keep
growing and growing. We now have 13 Youth
Squad Toppers, 11 of which are owned by the Club and available
for use by all of our Members and particularly Youth Squad
Members.
Mirror
Another youth boat sailed
and owned by Young Members. Our sailing programme for the
2003 season sees our first Mirror Open meeting for the
North East Travelers Circuit.
Miracle
Just a bit bigger than the
Mirror, at a glance we are the most northern club in
England to sail this class of boat.
420
Yet another one of our Youth
Boats. It is fought over tremendously by the the kids
who want a go with the trapeze wire.
Enterprise
Our largest fleet in the club
consists of Enterprise. We hold our own Enterprise Open Meeting
for the North East Series.
Merlin Rocket
Not many of these boats left
in the club, but in its day, Newbiggin had a big fleet,
which held its own Open Meeting.
Topper Sport 14
Only one of these in the club so far. A big stable boat,
excellent for all the family. Can be rigged with spinnaker
and Trapeze wire for that extra bit of fun.
No picture available yet.
RS 200
The RS fleet is taking over
the dinghy market, this is not surprising as
this RS boat is a star to sail. Very forgiving, parent
/ child, child /
child, adult / adult can sail it very easily.
Contender
Only recently this
boat joined our club. It looks like a big Laser with
the added extra of a Trapeze wire. (The
boat in the background is the Contender)
Omega
New in the 2004 season is our
latest acquisition, the Omega. It is the largest thermoplastic
trialm currently available. 15ft long with a centreboard,
more beamy, spacious and comfortable than other similar craft.
A boat for all the family.
Skaffie
An easy to sail
boat with a loose footed sail which makes it
ideal to use in work with persons with disabilities as
it has no boom to
hit you on the head. With lots of seats for "passengers" and
the
capability to take a small outboard motor makes it ideal
for on the lake
or sea. It has been successfully sailed by a young person
who is blind.
Tractor
The club tractor which
is used to tow the safety boats to the water is a David
Brown 770 Selectamatic and is road legal. Powered by
a three cylinder diesel engine it has a power take
off and working hydraulics. After many years of manually
pushing the safety boats our members would shed tears
if the tractor was out of action.
Rescue
Zodiac
The club has a Zodiac
Pro rib with a Honda 4 stroke engine primarily
for use with the Youth Squad. Its a new acquisition
for
2004. Fitted with VHF and other safety aids it is ideal
for use in the bay.
Safety
/ Committee Boats
The club has two Orkney
Strikliner 16+ hard chine boats that are used for
race start boat and safety boat. With a small cuddy
and Suzuki 30HP outboard motors they are quick and
nimble boats. With our modified trolleys they are
easy to launch and recover with the tractor.
