Our Canoe and Kayak courses are run with the emphasis on FUN!

Canoeing and Kayaking are a great way to get out on the water. There are many different ways to paddle, from flat water kayaking, adventuring down rivers and surfing on the sea.

You can start with a 2.5 hour taster session or come on our longer courses and achieve various qualifications and coaching certificates. We are a British Canoe Union approved centre and can teach and assess:

  • 1 Star for beginners
  • 2 Star for intermediate paddlers
  • 3 Star for the gateway to coaching scheme

We will also be a paddlepower centre for 2007. Paddlepower is an exciting scheme that has been designed to meet the needs of young people. It’s colourful and youth centred approach aims to:

• Encourage more young people to come into and stay in the sport
• Show them all aspects of the sport – both competitive and adventurous
• Provide signposts into Clubs where their skills and development can be nurtured
• Ensure good practice in coaching and equipment selection

We also offer more advanced courses for groups and for leaders, please call for further information.

Once a group has completed their course they have the opportunity to organise their own Adventure Trip. The trip can be over a weekend or a day trip depending on the groups abilities and needs.

We offer paddling in a number of different boats. At NWAC we have closed cockpit kayaks, open canoes and sit on tops. This variety of boats allows participants to try out the different disciplines and gain a wider understanding of paddling.
Kayak Closed Cockpit Kayaks – Our fleet of brand new Pyranha Master kayaks are ideal for teenagers and adults alike.
Open Top Open Canoes – The Discovery 169s are ideal adventure boats. They are stable, comfy and have enough room for lunch.
Sit On Top Sit On Tops – Our sit on tops are ideal for younger people and are a great way to introduce paddling techniques as well as having fun.

The BCU offers many innovative approaches to teaching paddlesport from an early age. We have been working with the school sports development officer to develop programme's which can fit in with the school curriculum and scouting awards. Much of the information can be found on the BCU web site:

www.bcu.org.uk – The national governing body for all types of canoeing.

www.canoe-england.org.uk/canoeeng/611-4-schools.aspx – Information about linking paddlesport into the national curriculum at Key Stage 2 and 3.

www.canoe-england.org.uk/canoeeng/623-4-paddlepower.aspx – Information about the paddlepower scheme.

Our canoeing programme can be tailored to your individual needs. If you are interested in sailing, just get in touch and we will let you know about our latest courses and activities.
